AN OVERVIEW OF OIL AND GAS DRILLING EQUIPMENT

Without the right drilling equipment, the oil and gas industry will experience slowed growth and progress. Even worse, companies won’t be able to provide ample supply of products to meet the demands and requirements of the world market. Indeed, oil and gas drilling equipment are a huge driving force behind this continuously growing industry. There are all kinds of oil and gas drilling equipment for sale in the market today, but how do you know which machines will provide you enough drilling power? Waters International, Inc. offers a complete range of oil and gas drilling equipment for sale and for rent, including brand new and reconditioned machines built to cater to the needs of all kinds of gas and oil drilling operations.

Oil and gas drilling rigs are complex structures that comprise of a variety of different, but related components and below are some of the most crucial elements that these systems require:

  • Mud pump – Mud pumps are crucial components of any oil rig. This equipment is designed to move fluid through the rigging system. They are essentially large, reciprocating pumps that circulate “mud” or drilling fluid so that rock cuttings can be moved up the well. Mud pumps help ensure that the entire depth of the well is maximized during oil extraction.

  • Mast – Also called the derrick, mast in oil drilling systems, refers to the tall tower, which serves as a lifting device for the drill string. This tall structure ensures proper placement of the drill string (which facilitates every other activity in the oil rig).

  • Top drive – The top drive in an oil or gas rig can be found suspended from the derrick or mast. This motor’s role is to turn the drill string so that the drilling process can proceed. The top drive is what you often see moving up and down of the mast.
